A project to try to get funding to help people needing Spiritatplay

August, 2023

The children are getting ready to go back to school. If your child is home taught and is troubled by any life problems it may be the time for you to get funding in your package for sessions with Spiritatplay.

We are experienced in working with young people who find the school experience hard to cope with. We find that sessions with the horses help to bring out the person they are and opens up the door of learning.

We are willing to help with any feedback you need to supply back .

Any one is welcome to come along and meet my horses and see the wonderful setting our Centre is in.

Please if you wish to come along please let me know and we can arrange it.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.

Regards.

A project to try to get funding to help people needing Spiritatplay

March, 2023

Spiritatplay is starting a project which hopefully will raise some funding to help the people who need our wonderful work but struggling Financially. We sadly lost 2 horses last year which left only 3 remaining horses out of our herd of Therapy horses.

This is leaving space so we want to make a project where we have retirement Livery. The livery income will provide the care of the horses left meaning we can carry out some sessions where we don’t have to charge.

This project has been run for a short time and proved to work out for horses and people. We will be only taking two horses as we will be busy working.

If you are looking for Retirement livery you are welcome to come and see our yard and meet our horses. Anyone who wants to come and meet us please get in touch and we will be able to agree on a time when you are free to do so.

GETTING READY FOR SUMMER

March, 2023

Spiritatplay is getting ready for the summer season. The horses are ready to do the work they love so much. In order to help them I am asking if there is anyone who could spare a few hours per week to help keep the standard of care up to the level they are used to having.

If you could spare a few hours your reward would be to see the horses happy and enjoying the interaction with the students. Spiritatplay value all volunteers now matter how much time you can spare us and we all work together as a family to give a caring, peaceful and rememberable experience. If you are interested please contact Judith and you can make a time when you can come and meet our beautiful horses and see the wonderful setting the horses live in.

Many thanks for reading this message and hope to meet you soon.

Equine Assisted Therapy

August, 2022

Spiritatplay has been fortunate enough to be awarded a grant allowing our team to give sessions to families who are finding it hard to keep the family Unit together due to the stresses of the times we live in. The sessions will be one hour of enjoying the interaction with our beautiful therapy horses, feeling the peace and quite that the venue gives and the warmth and caring the horses give to you helps the family to relax and lay aside the stress felt by the family members. This leads to a happier family situation and learning to enjoy each other's company in play.

The sessions would be 1 hour long each family will have two sessions.

If you have any families that could benefit from these sessions get back to us to apply for a referral form, when that is filled in and returned to us dates can be arranged.

I can not promise that I will get the funding as it never sure till the money is in the bank, but at least we will be ready if I am lucky enough to be awarded.

Spiritatplay has had a very sad few months.

June, 2022

In November 2021 we lost our darling Ruby to colic. She was such a star and loved her work with the pupils and they loved working with her. Thank you, Ruby, for all the smiles you put on the faces of very sad and confused people especially young people. Rest in Peace darling Girl, we love you so much.

On Christmas day 2021 We lost Hobson also to colic. He was such a strong personality he left a massive hole in the herd. If they were ever having any uses of any form he always trotted over and sorted it all out. Again, thank you so much Hobbs for your care and the love you taught to our troubled clients. Bet the other animals know you have arrived over the rainbow bridge LOL. Rest in peace darling it will always impossible to replace you and stop missing your presence.

On New years eve Archie our wonderful half feral cat just disappeared. We have searched everywhere for you baby but just can’t find you. One day you may just come home we all hope so much that it will happen. You are a cat in a million loving but let us know when enough was enough, hope you have found a lovely place with a new family.

Please come home soon we all miss you so much.

On April 20th Our wonderful dog Alfie passed away peacefully after a struggle with a tumour in his throat. You always told me in your way what the students needed and usually provided it. So many smiles that would not have been seen if you hadn’t have taken over and played chase or got on your trolley for a ride with them.

We miss you every day all day Love and thank you so much it never stops hurting.

Latest press release from SpiritAtPlay

Community Foundation board

August, 2019

We are hoping to gain support locally at Asda where we feature on their Community Foundation board.

Local horses are helping local families
At Illston on the Hill there are five special horses that at were, one time, ill-treated but are now helping others. Thanks to the dedication of the centre owner, Judith Edwards, and her small team of committed volunteers, her horses are helping families to come together and improve their home relationships. Spirit At Play is the centre and their latest project is called Families United. Already this year 40 sessions have been held involving 39 children and 10 parents/carers. Sessions for nearly 40 more families and children are planned for the rest of the summer.

Finding out how to communicate with horses will teach you self-awareness and how to relate to humans too. It is amazing that horses can teach us how to find our own level of calm.

Judith explained, “All of the families are referred to us by a care worker, key worker or by a school. The idea is that when difficulties within the family have been identified we are part of a complete support package. We do not offer sessions to self-referrals”, she said.

We need to raise funds to enable us to keep the horses in good condition so that they can give to the children and families. We are appealing through the Asda Community scheme to get local support. PLEASE drop a token into the SpiritAtPlay box . Thank you.

Our funding appeal for 2019

March, 2019

We have made good progress over the last two years to build the SpiritAtPlay centre. We are now in need of adding a hard standing enclosure for use as an activity area where the horses and visitors will interact. The project will involve laying an all-weather surface for an outdoor ménage. Presently there are no such facilities on our site. The benefits of having this ménage are as follows:

  • Visitors have a safer environment in which to interact with the horses.
  • This area will enable us to run sessions all year round.
  • Allow us to support more people of all ages and abilities.
  • We can develop advanced natural horsemanship programmes and techniques.
  • Easier access for people with disabilities, as a safe, enclosed and dry surface.

We are now in need of adding a hard standing enclosure for use as an activity area where the horses and visitors will interact.

Judith Edwards SpiritAtPlay

The hardstanding area is going to be a rectangular arena approximately the size of a tennis court. Quotations from local suppliers are estimated to be about £5,000. We have not raised any funds towards this particular aspect of the project so far. However, now that we have been funded by the Big Lottery to run the Families United project, to the rural community of Leicestershire we need even more than ever to create the suitable arena in which to carry out the activities.
